Informations

The military services of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are the Netherlands Armed Forces (Dutch Nederlandse krijgsmacht). The four service branches that make up the core of the armed force are the Royal Netherlands Navy, Royal Netherlands Army, Royal Netherlands Landmacht, Royal Netherlands Air Force (Koninklijke Luchtmacht), and Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. Diverse joint support organizations supplement the service branches. Additionally, there are local conscript forces on the Dutch Caribbean islands Aruba (AruMil), and Curacao/CurMil. These forces operate under the auspices the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNS) and the Netherlands Marine Corps (NMC). The Ministry of Defence is responsible for the organisation of the armed forces.

The constitution of the Netherlands determines the existence, authority, and duties of the armed forces. Head of the Armed Forces is the Government. It consists of cabinet members, led by the Prime Minister, and the King. The monarch is not the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, even though servicemen swear allegiance the King of the Netherlands. Royal Decree established the military ranks of the Netherlands' armed forces. They are very similar to NATO member states. The Chief of Defence is the highest-ranking officer in Dutch military, and he is a four-star officer (NATO OF-9).
