The Republic of China Armed Forces, (ROCAF; Chinese pronunciation: Zhong Hua Min Guo Jun ; pinyin pronunciation: Zhonghua Minguo Guojun), are the armed forces of Republic of China (ROC). They were formerly based on mainland China but currently operate in all of its remaining jurisdictions, which include the islands of Taiwan and Penghu as well as Kinmen and Matsu.
It includes the Army, Navy (including Marine Corps), Air Force, and Military Police Force. The Ministry of National Defense is the cabinet-level agency that oversees the military. The military was originally called the National Revolutionary Army (NRA), but it was renamed the Republic of China Armed Forces after the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of China in 1947.
