Informations

The Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces, Persian: nyrwhy.mslH, romanized as Niruha-ye Mosallah-e Jomhuri-ye Eslami-ye Iran), are the combined military forces of Iran. They include the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and the Law Enforcement Force, (Police). The largest number of active troops in the Middle East is held by the Iranian Armed Forces. Iran's military forces include approximately 610,000 personnel on active duty and 350,000 trained and reserve personnel who can be mobilized as needed. This brings the total number of personnel in Iran's military to 960,000. These figures do not include the Law Enforcement Force and Basij. The majority of Iran's import weapons are American-made systems, which were purchased prior to the 1979 Islamic Revolution. However, there have been limited purchases made from the Soviet Union during the 1990s after the Iran-Iraq War.

The country has launched a robust domestic program of rearmament and its stock has grown more indigenously. Officials in Iran claim that most of their military hardware is made domestically. The country was already an exporter of arms in the 2000s, according to officials. Iranian officials claim that the country's missile program is not designed to deliver nuclear payloads and cannot import them from abroad. They also state that Iran was already an exporter of arms by 2000. The General Staff of Iran's Armed Forces is responsible for all branches of the armed forces. The Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics plans logistics and funds the armed forces. It is not involved in military operational command. The Supreme Leader is the commander-in-chief for the armed forces.
