The national military force of Ecuador is called the Ecuadorian Armed Forces (Spanish Fuerzas Armadas del Ecuador). Guillermo Lasso, the President of Ecuador is currently the commander-in-chief. The Ministry of National Defence is the civilian command of the military.

The Ecuadorian military has been involved with border disputes with Peru (Ecuadorian–Peruvian War (1857-181860), Ecuadorian–Peruvian War Paquisha War and Cenepa War) and has provided military observers to the United Nations since 1948.
