Informations

The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF; Khmer: kngyoodhblkhemrbhuumind, Kang Youthopol Khemorophumint) is Cambodias national military force. King Norodom Sihamoni is the Supreme Commander-in Chief. As the head of the Army and Navy as well as the Air Force and Gendarmerie, General Vong Pisen is the Commander-in Chief of the RCAF since 2018. The Ministry of National Defence oversees the armed forces. The RCAF, as per the country's constitution, is responsible for protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kingdom of Cambodia. It was formed in 1993 from the merger of two non-communist resistance arms and the Cambodian Peoples Armed Forces. The government was opposed by the Khmer Rouge (rebel force) and the Royal Cambodian Army (NUA).

Division 125 is the predecessor of the Cambodian Armed Forces. It was established by Hun Sen, now prime minister, in 1978 with support from Vietnam Peoples Army. The Royal Cambodian Army, which has troops in all 25 provinces of Cambodia, is the largest RCAF branch. The Royal Cambodian Navy is the second-largest branch. It operates in the Tonle Sap Lake and along the Mekong, Bassac and Mekong Rivers. The military police force, which is composed of 10,000 people, has posts in all the provinces and municipalities across the country. The Royal Cambodian Air Force is the smallest branch of service with 5,000 members and operates in all provinces that have an airport.
