The combined military forces of Bangladesh, the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, are known as the Bangladesh Armed Forces (Bengali pronunciation: baaNlaadesh-sstr baahinii; romanized as Bangladesh Sashastra Bahini). It is composed of three uniformed military forces: the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Navy, as well as the Bangladesh Air Force. The Armed Forces fall under the control of the Ministry of Defence of the Government of Bangladesh and are directly managed by the Armed Forces Division of the Prime Ministers Office. As Commander-in-Chief, the Bangladesh Armed Forces is headed by the President of Bangladesh. It is home to the third largest defence budget in South Asia, and the third most powerful military force. During peacetime, Bangladesh Coast Guard and Bangladesh Border Guard (formerly Bangladesh Rifles), are under the Ministry of Home Affairs' jurisdiction. However, during wartime they are under the control of Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy.
