The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco--style skyscraper located in the Turtle Bay neighborhood on the East Side of Manhattan, New York City, at the intersection of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue near Midtown Manhattan.
At 1,046 feet (318.9 m), the construction was the world's tallest building for 11 months before it was surpassed by the Empire State Building in 1931. It's the tallest brick building in the world using a steel frame. As of 2019, the Chrysler is the 11th-tallest construction in the city, tied with The New York Times Building.Originally a job of real estate developer and former New York State Senator William H. Reynolds, the building was constructed by Walter Chrysler, the head of the Chrysler Corporation, and served as the corporation's headquarters from 1930 until the mid-1950s. The Carlton Centre is a 50 story skyscraper and shopping centre situated in downtown Johannesburg, South Africa. In 223 metres (732 feet ), it is the second tallest building in Africa following The Leonardo and the tallest office building. The foundations of both buildings in the complex are 5 m (16 feet ) in diameter and extend 15 m (49 feet ) down to the bedrock, 35 m (115 feet ) below street level. The building houses both offices and shops, and has over 46 percent of the floor area below ground level. The Carlton Centre is linked to the Carlton Hotel by a below-ground shopping centre with over 180 shops.
