Schwäbisch Hall (1802–1934 offiziell nur Hall – wie bis heute umgangssprachlich) ist eine Stadt im fränkisch geprägten Nordosten Baden-Württembergs etwa 37 km östlich von Heilbronn und 60 km nordöstlich von Stuttgart. Sie ist der Kreissitz und die größte Stadt des Landkreises Schwäbisch Hall und bildet ein Mittelzentrum in der Region Heilbronn-Franken. Die im Mittelalter um eine Saline entstandene Gewerbesiedlung auf fränkischem Königsgut, 1156 erstmals urkundlich sicher belegt, wurde zu einer staufischen Königsstadt.

1280 erlangte Hall den Status einer Reichsstadt im Heiligen Römischen Reich und konnte den bis zur Mediatisierung 1802 beibehalten. Schwäbisch Hall ist seit dem 1. Oktober 1960 eine Große Kreisstadt. Bekannt ist die Stadt durch den nach ihr benannten Heller wie auch für die Salzsieder, die Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall und die Freilichtspiele auf der großen Treppe vor St. Michael.
