Kiew (ukrainisch Kyjiw [ˈkɪjɪu̯]; russisch Киев Kijew [ˈkʲi(ɪ̯)ɪf]; siehe auch zur Schreibweise des Ortes) ist die Hauptstadt und die größte Stadt der Ukraine. Sie liegt am bis hierhin für kleinere Seeschiffe befahrbaren Dnepr und hat auf einer Fläche von 847,66 km² nahezu 3 Millionen Einwohner. Die Agglomeration umfasst mehr als vier Millionen Einwohner. Kiew gilt als wichtiger Bildungs- und Industriestandort und bildet darüber hinaus den wichtigsten Verkehrsknotenpunkt des Landes.

Aufgrund ihrer historischen Bedeutung als Mittelpunkt der Kiewer Rus trägt die Stadt seit gleichlautender Bezeichnung in der Nestorchronik oft den Beinamen Mutter aller russischen Städte. Wegen der vielen Kirchen und Klöster und seiner Bedeutung für die orthodoxe Christenheit wird Kiew seit dem Mittelalter außerdem als Jerusalem des Ostens bezeichnet. Die Sophienkathedrale und das Kiewer Höhlenkloster stehen seit 1990 auf der UNESCO-Liste des Weltkulturerbes.
