Gateshead ist eine Stadt in Tyne and Wear im Nordosten von England auf der Südseite des Flusses Tyne. Die Stadt befindet sich gegenüber von Newcastle upon Tyne und ist mit dieser durch zehn Brücken verbunden, unter anderem die Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Sie hat 120.046 Einwohner (2011) und ist Verwaltungssitz des Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. In Gateshead befindet sich mit dem MetroCentre eines der größten Einkaufszentren Europas.

Bekannt sind auch das 20 m hohe Standbild Engel des Nordens („Angel of the North“) von Antony Gormley und das Konzert- und Veranstaltungszentrum The Sage Gateshead. Ferner befindet sich in der Stadt das Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, in dem 2011 die Ausstellung mit Werken der für den Turner-Preis nominierten Künstler zum ersten Mal außerhalb Londons stattfand.
