Löwen hat 101.624 Einwohner (Stand: Januar 2019). Löwen ist vor allem bekannt für seine Universität, die Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, sowie für sein Stadtbild, das mit dem gotischen Rathaus und dem Alten Markt einige der schönsten Beispiele flämischer Baukunst aufweist.
