Des Moines [dɪˈmɔɪn] ist die Hauptstadt und mit rund 215.000 Einwohnern (Schätzung 2016, U.S. Census Bureau) größte Stadt des US-Bundesstaates Iowa. Darüber hinaus ist Des Moines der County-Sitz von Polk County. Viele Versicherungsgesellschaften haben ihren Hauptsitz in Des Moines, darunter die Principal Financial Group, Equitable of Iowa, Allied Insurance und American Republic Insurance Company, sowie der Medienkonzern Meredith Corporation.

Des Moines wurde 1843 als Fort Des Moines gegründet, benannt nach dem Des Moines River. Das Fort bestand bis 1846.
