Amman ([aˈmaːn], arabisch عمان, DMG ʿAmmān) ist die Hauptstadt des Haschimitischen Königreiches Jordanien und zählte 1.812.059 Einwohner (4.044.000 in der Metropolregion) bei der Volkszählung 2015. Amman ist eine moderne Stadt, in der überwiegend Muslime und 10 Prozent Christen leben.

Die heutige Finanzmetropole begann erst nach der Staatsgründung Israels infolge der Flüchtlingsströme aus dem Westjordanland zu einer Großstadt zu wachsen.
